I’m giving it a shot because of all the praise it’s gotten, not the hate. I was hoping they’d actually improved. Also I like the discussion.

I’m three tracks in and I have no idea why people are fapping to this, it’s super bland. The monotonous guitar work ends up leaving the vocal melodies to pick up the slack, but they’re not interesting enough to carry the album on their own.

I sat through A Stained Glass Romance one album in its entirety. Nobody cares about that band whatsoever and I sat through a whole album just to 1.0 it.

You are not saying like anything at all.

Sitar I see your point. Good or bad publicity still gives you attention to put forth whatever you promote, like I said even if it applies to only half the band ( and them profiting over exploiting drum tones but that’s another argument. The band has created a moniker around themselves that is somewhat nonsensical, how the hell are you suppose to take them seriously as contemporary songwriters when they put shit like the balls bit? All comes back to them receiving this hate, it’s why you have bands like Psychostick.

Very rarely do I give a shot to a band I’m predisposed to hate. If it gets enough praise to make me think they’ve actually shaken up their sound a good deal, I’ll give it a fair listen. I’m just really not seeing how this is in any way better than their previous work

I'm not saying necessarily that it's the best way to go about it. Perhaps they could've made millions off being super duper sincere like your regular run of the mill bleeding heart metalcore band. But they're also probably post-ironic hipsters themselves. Which is why Misha will randomly show up just to stir the pot with a shitpost from time to time.

Nah, their humor and their music sucks. It's an all around epic fail (speaking in the era of memes that the band is familiar with).

But you're still talking about it. And you can't help yourself. So everyone wins!

Which is why I think it’s the worst image you can put for yourself because then you have threads and forums like this.

You don't have to prove anything to me! And I swear this isn't reverse psychology to get you to stop shitposting either. This album was trending before it was even released.

The album has a 3.8 rating and will probably stay above 3.5. Which means that the haters are just a vocal majority. Most people who listen to this still think it's great. The haters weren't going to not bitch even if it was called "Jane Doe 2" and didn't end with the "suck my balls". It just riled them up enough to keep this thread at the top of the recent comments for the entire day.

Is it REALLY that hard to separate the music from their silly jokes? It's not like anyone is going to listen to Satellites all the way through, love it, and then hear "suck my balls" and go "well that just ruined the song for me."

Actually someone might, but that someone needs to pull the stick out of their ass. It's 1 second, who cares?

Also their meme reputation is something that a lot of fans get a kick out of so there's that.

It is when a band puts no effort in actually improving, especially in the case of a band like Periphery.

Cas you should try Alpha sometime. Its not a great album but its Periphery writting actual melodies.

I should actually revisit too tbh.

I'm not talking about people like you who clearly despise every single thing about the band. I'm talking about people who are actually enjoying the music. Think they're gonna let some memes and silly jokes ruin the album for them? Nah.
