All the songs that aren't singles are so much better than the singles holy shit lmao

I'm not done yet, but I gotta say that Jamie's clean choruses are so much better than Jake's that it's actually insane. His voice is similar but that little extra grit and the melodies he uses just fit the band's sound so much better. So far all my least favorite tracks are the ones with a lot of Jake choruses.

Agreed, Jamie's cleans are a lot better than Jake's at this point

Gonna take my time with it before I state a preference, but right not I'm not quite as infatuated with the new album as I was with this one. That said, the singles all grew on me the more I listened to them, and there are some tracks that knocked me on my ass on the first run through, so the potential is there.

Gonna jam the new one all day today, keen

Alright I've spun it like 10 times now. It's at least as good as this, probably better. I just connected with this album in a big way so I hesitate put their new one above it on day one.
I do wish they would chill out a bit when it comes to the genericore choruses, but that's my only gripe. Everything else is so good. I'm with you on missing the Jamie growls but I still love the guy as a vocalist. He's insanely emotive and brings so much energy, and he does still display range, it's just more subtle than the stuff he was doing on their EPs. Riffs are killer, drum work is killer, lyrics are depressing as absolute fuck but wonderfully well written. Couldn't really ask for much more from these boys, they got their shit down.

This is a solid Architects album but not their best. Pray for Ray could easily be fitted on to a modern Architecs album and nobody would even notice

Man I dont really see Architects in them at all tbh. Maybe as an influence, as they are for all modern metalcore, but I don't see the copycat style that ive seen some people suggest
i think they mix their structures more than Architects and are more willing to experiment. Thats just my opinion obviously though
As for the 'genericore' choruses they seem to be the thing that really divides opinion on the new record from the early discussions ive seen. Personally speaking again I find songs like Masochist, Vagabond and Above My Head to be among my favourites

The Architects thing annoys me. What do people see in that band that l don't? I would take Polaris any day over them. New one is pretty damn great and l need to listen more to see if it grows more on me

Masochist is def my least favorite on the album, that song just does nothing for me. I don't get the Architects thing either, they don't sound much like them other than the fact that Jamie can sometimes sound like Sam
"and he does still display range, it's just more subtle than the stuff he was doing on their EPs"
True, and I still find Jamie to be incredibly solid as a vocalist. My only thing is that some songs would benefit from a nasty growl thrown into the climactic parts

So the new album bangs. Everything on there is fucking awesome, except for Vagabond. That song is okay, it just doesn't do much for me. It's still good, just not up to the other tracks imo.
Agree on Jamie. He's easily one of my favorite vocalists in the game right now, but he does have the same problem as Sam from Architects in that they don't use the lows They can both do them so fucking well and they don't do them on record, only live. Bums me out a bit.

Might have to drop this to a 4 and give the new one a 4 or 4.5 honestly. I like it as much or better than this one, but I can't justify giving it a 5. At least not yet lol.

I like the new one more than this, might give it a 4.5 despite the singles just being kinda decent imo

I actually really liked the singles. Jake's vocals and choruses don't bother me at all and that seems to be the sticking point for a lot of people. Hypermania is still one of my favorites, I just love the Underoath-inspired yelly chorus from Jamie.

Hypermania is def the best single, just doesn't hit the same highs as the rest of the album imo. Jake's vocals don't bother me either, although Masochist gets close lol
