It was a 4.5 before today because I felt the lyrics were a bit too cryptic for their own good and they just didn't connect with me.
After today it's a 5 because now everything makes sense.

Both are a 5, no need to grasp for objectivity in a time like this. This album makes me cry like a little bitch, due to context or not, the music has been given new meaning.

It's just weird that on Friday it's like we were listening to a completely different album.

"Maybe the Blackstar that he is referring to in the song, the one who replaces him, is you and I. Maybe he hopes that in death he will inspire the likes of us to create fearlessly like he did. Regardless, I'm feeling enlivened by it."
yeah, the lyrics allude to this. we're all heading the same direction.
seriously though, very brave to tackle the subject when you're at an arm's distance of it and it's happening to you. another indication of what a legend this man is.

Yeah in a way...
I haven't listened to Girl Loves Me since before he died and now I'm giving all of Blackstar another run through to see the different and oh look at this Sue is about to end.

^It feels and sounds completely different than it did two days ago. I think it's a beautiful thing for those of us who were able to hear it before and after his death. I don't think that's really something that has ever happened before.

"Look up here, I'm in heaven. I've got scars that can't be seen"
"This way or no way, you know I'll be free"
Can't imagine how difficult it must've been for him.

Warren Zevon created his last album in a similar fashion, but it was more publicly known that he was sick and dying at the time of its release.

That Lazarus vid is a signifier if ever there was one. Again everyone will be saying in time to come 'oh it was this and that, he was saying this about such and such' when in actual fact we all know that we were there and we didn't have a fuckin clue.

David Bowie is a household name worldwide, for him to do something as radical as this is
