This isn't the best Leprous, agreed with everyone.

COAL >>>>> but this is more refined in terms of signature sound. I guess if there was an album that definned progressive metal in the '10s, it was Congregation and not Coal.

You said it. As far as consistency of quality releases (Bilateral through Pitfalls), they're unmatched

Why exactly do you guys prefer Coal? I'm curious

for starters, it was the first album I heard from them, so maybe that's all you need to know. But also, I feel like Einar's voice is in better balance with the compositions. I also feel like it's more varied and less ''brainy'', I feel like the songs lead somewhere other than ''look how technical we can be'', and it's an album I don't skip any song. Besides, any album that contains both The Vally and Contaminate Me is better than Congregation.

The Valley and Contaminate Me are so good, but I always feel like Coal just drags in places. I really dig TC, because it's so concise and to the point. Also: The Price, Rewind, The Flood, Red, Slave, Moon ... it's just tune after tune after tune. A tad too long though, but man, this is massive

It is a tune after tune after tune. But it does feel like a drag, and it's definitely not an easy album. The general ideas just seem to work better for me on Coal, which I would say breathes compared to the suffocating reality of Congregation. Also, cover art on COAL >>>

@kalk Idk man, there were a bunch of melodies and vocal playgrounds on TC that felt much weaker in comparison to Coal. I also prefer the variety on Coal, the songs on this feel just a bit *too* uniform. I'm a bit of a sucker for their more long-winded compositions anyways, even if they drag a bit.

This album is great, I love it, but Coal has no weaknesses, great from start to finish.
