I stopped jamming this as much as when I first got it, but that's only because I listen to the new PF and this year's Need album. I don't think this is overhyped. People who love the band checked it first and it got high ratings. Indifferent listeners got round to it and either stuck or didn't like it, thus lowering the rate. Simple as that.

Oh, and FUCK.

Yeah, I don't think it deserves a 5. Maybe not even a 4.5. But till the end of the year I'll have figured it out.

"Thank god people are finally realizing how over-hyped this is."/"Use real arguments, fuckheads."

If one considers 'people' as 'this album's constantly expanding base of listeners' and 'realizing' as 'becoming clearly aware of', then it is fairly clear that the listener base contains an increasingly large (or, simply, vocal) faction which has become aware, possibly without having been initially impressed, of the fact that this album has been praised by the majority beyond what they would consider reasonable (aka 'overhyped'). I don't think that's hard to understand.

In my opinion, it has been ridiculously overhyped; there's some decent substance here, but whilst it is innovative, it certainly isn't so at a level that merits the label 'experimental' every other single. It's appeal is built around adventurous structures, some solid riffage and (mainly) pure fucking excess, so this site (naturally) laps it up.

Did I say other people are wrong? There's nothing wrong with finding it appealing for the reasons I stated, or otherwise, but since I find it tiring as fuck it is only natural that I, and others who agree, consider it overhyped. Stop branding expressions of opinion with insinuations of objectivity that, quite simply, aren't fucking there.

"Nothing's overrated or overhyped."

That's true insofar as there's not such thing as good or bad - it's like the difference between saying that there's no such thing as a valid opinion (concerning music) and saying that all opinions are valid. If someone dislikes an album such as this, which has high acclaim from a majority, then of course it's overhyped from that person's perspective. Nobody has tried to stamp "this is objectively a bad album" statements on this, they are just sharing their perspective and offering it as such.

"Neatly summed up to..."

Use a real argument and refrain from being a bigot.

Taking into account social influence, tendency to be liked and inexperienced listeners that take example from ''idols'' (or if you prefer ''models''), I could say that albums can be overhyped. ''Oh look, certain people like this album, let's 5 it so we don't look dumb/amateurs/fake.'' I find myself thinking about overhyped albums a lot. But that's just an opinion. I believe that, when that particular listener finally aqcuires their own personal taste and reevaluate their ratings, then an album stops being over/under-rated. But does this actually happen? I am not one to judge.

@ Cliimatic I hope it's just a joke and not pure sarcasm. Yes, users tend to mimic others, older users, in order to avoid online criticism and ''LOL, BRO, YOU STOOPID, NOOB''. That's the (obvious) meaning of my post. Not that I'm going to fall in love with beefshoes because we have the same rating.
