"I think the distinction I am trying to draw is rather than saying "of course the internet is terrible, look at all the shitty people on it", it's more "there are a bunch of shitty people, and the internet provides a platform for them to meet"."

Thing is, I was being extremely hyperbolic. Obviously the internet isn't all terrible.

"Do you kind of get the subtle difference? You're absolutely right that those communities have provided the staging area for really shitty behavior, but I think saying that they are proof that the internet attracts the worst kind of people ignores some of the really cool shit that happens in those places."

I study law, I deal with subtle differences all day. Let me have my hyperboles.

"Zaru brought up the other word I was looking for - it's anonymity mixed with no accountability."

also, yes.

"It's a moot point, but there *are* SoSci research departments devoted to studying this behavior :]"

It was a moot point in the context of saying that I act like right-wing extremists, casual racists and otherwise oldtimey idiots that think Islam = terrorism because - as I said earlier - I was being hyperbolic. There's also a fundamental difference in terms of scope and compared subjects.

Ah I may have miscommunicated my islam comparison, I wasn't saying you are a racist, just pointing out that the reasoning was similar. I don't think you're a racist / right-wing extremist :]

I know that. I was just saying it's an inadequate comparison because I was being hyperbolic and applies to different kinds of groups within not really comparable frameworks.

Oh I was just curious since you had mentioned that, and i remember you mentioned that your access to shows wasn't the greatest which surprised me, since Germany sees a lot of traffic. But I imagine it's the same in that even though the states see a lot of traffic, that doesn't stop me from having terrible access to good shows

Well yeah, it's not Germany. It's being in buttfucknomansland in Rhineland-Palatinate. I mean, technically I could drive to Cologne for concerts but I'd have to pay for tickets and for the train fare in addition to not knowing anybody there meaning I'd have to wait at the train station throughout the night which is not something I want to do again.

Hamburg is fine for shows because it's one of the major stops for pretty much anything. Plus it's the punk capital of Germany.

Yeah I feel you there, the venue in the city near me is in a really shitty part of town and parking around it always feels like I'm going to get mugged walking back to my car. Plus the venue itself has a sound guy who hasn't had a good show in his life.

I didn't know that Germany had a strong punk scene - any recommendations?

That five and a half minute mark till end in Sigh of Summer is a reminder why Autumn Eternal doesn't come near this. A great display of Lunn's often breathtaking bridges and outros. 8:39 is almost too much, even though it should've gone on longer.

Autumn doesn't have a song the calibre of previously mentioned and Chase the Grain, so there's no contest for me ;)

I had Autumn above this slightly for a few months but I might edge it back to this. If even just for the last part of In Silence, so good.

Glad it doesnt have any of that shitty clean singing which sounds like it belongs on a country record, which kentucky had.

it's generic folk metal that sounds totally phoned-in or ripped from Austin's "crap basic riffs I forgot to use" notebook.

and those flutes make my ears bleed.

yeah don't agree with that at all

i can see the flutes being annoying, i personally enjoy them, but that's mega disingenuous to say it's generic folk metal

you could perhaps make that argument about autumn eternal, but kentucky had a STRONG black metal lean to it, way stronger than most 'folk'. i would barely call it folk metal

still generic still phoned in tho. Like the chord progressions felt painfully basic.
