they set such a high bar with this I don't think they'll ever be able to top it, but the new stuff is still great, Empyrean has way more varied vocals which I appreciate

Yeah idk this record is just so much better than Empyrean, even with the weird production. But to be fair, it does really fit the atmospheric vibe of the record so maybe the production is better than Empyrean? I found that one to sound a bit bland, a bit too refined.

Interested to see what the remaster sounds like. Still jam Starlit Path, Sapphire and Allure regularly.

Lol the master on this record is more than fine, it's the mix and production choices that make it sound so weird

i call it a remaster because I don't know shit about fuck

but my understanding when reading the statement was that it would not shred my ears if I wanted to listen to it at any listenable volume.

"guitar sound on here is horrid" half of great metal sounds horrid, but it shouldn't hurt.

Do I mean half literally? nah

But I don't have to tell you that throughout it's history, lots of metal sounds pretty awful. Guitar tone specifically. And that's without even considering the genres that made it a point to sound awful.

Ah, a remix, now THAT is interesting for sure. But it will probably sound worse anyway lol. Weird how they got the same mixer to do the remix though. Not familiar with his other work so I'm still interested.

This album is simply so much heavier than Empyrean, and that's reason enough to say this is so much better

Listening to remixed Sapphire now and comparing to original. It's very similar. Took a little edge off, beefed up the drums a bit, but almost all of the original character is there, which I'm fine with tbh. I think a lot of remixes sound like shit because they lose core sounds from the original and it just ends up sounding totally wrong to me. I'm glad I can actually look forward to this one, seems like they did it right.

I never had a problem with how this album sounded aside from it being really loud.

It was an assault on your ears originally, I'm on my work headphones so it might be some placebo effect but it just seems like the wet blanket covering everything has been removed. The vocals seem a little more clear as well.

That said, I haven't listened to this in a minute and goddamn what a song.
