I prefer my Mastodon to be either manly rock the fuck out sludge, or fun-as-hell mainstream metal. while i dig and appreciate their proggier stuff, it doesn't appeal to me as much as their first two or latest two albums.

Most of the songs on here have awesome choruses, saves the album for the most part

The riffs also save it. And the solos. And the drumming. And pretty much everything.

Pretty much, this might actually have more classic sounding riffs of theirs than The Hunter despite also relying way more on choruses

This album feels like everything Mastodon thrown into a blender.

I can't even think of any other great metal bands formed in the 2000s
yeah it's tough. ISIS and Cult of Luna had great decades, but not really formed in 2000s. Same goes for Converge and Neurosis (although they're both older obviously). Rwake had a great decade, but not like Mastodon. I know a lot of rednecks who would say Lamb of God.

I haven't really liked anything by Mastdon since about their second album... I actually completely stopped paying attention to the band.
But I like this.
