1985 is like Peter Gabriel, Drama-era Yes and Awake-era DT

"Architect": DT worship, some random blast beats, Discipline-era King Crimson bridge with cool solo...RETURN OF THE DEATH GROWLS...and epic Haken chorus. Interesting.

lol Earthrise is like a heavy 90125 Yes song. I finally get what they mean by "80s prog."

The Architect shows all the Leprous influences, not just because of Einar's feature.

The Endless Knot is a serious jam, great use of electronic sounds, rough melodies and rhythm, almost ''djent'' or -slightly- ''dubstep''.

Yeah, I do hear the Leprous influence like on Endless Knot. The "djent breakdown" is quite different from dubstep, but I know what you mean. Same garbage imo

Of course, I can't compare it to dubstep, I'm just saying the 'dirt' in the sound is reminiscent of it.

You don't like djent at all?

nope, I don't

Something like Animals as Leaders is more melodic and therfore tolerable but no djent has done much for me

To conclude my first impression of Affinity: I applaud the good variety, which is definitely there. The 80s thing kind of accents the cheese though. They lost the Gentle Giant influence, which makes me sad. In the end, I'm still not too certain if any of it was very good.

Have you listened to the last Leprous album? It's not djent, at all, but the philosophy of cut up notes is present. I'd like to know your opinion on that. Animals as Leaders are fine, but I like my bands as I like my.... coffee? Anyway, with vocals.

Affinity is nice, still need time to digest it. First half is better than second half, I believe, though the Endless Knot is superb. Earthrise and Red Giant are the lesser ones in this.

Haha yup, coffee with vocals and metal with sugar. I checked a few songs from the new Leprous and they were okay. I should listen to Leprous again.

This is overall not as effective as The Mountain in terms of using their influences, but it's pretty fun so far. 1985 is an odd combo of Rush and DT.
