Why Rick Rubin though..
Probably because they enjoyed working with him making this album. Not because he delivers such fine
production value, that's for sure.
I was comfortable with this being their last, but I guess we'll see what happens here.

His albums don't bother me, he's really not as bad as people say he is.

It would be cool if Bill Ward could return for one last studio performance and they got Rodger Bain to produce the album.

The main problem with his production is that it's TOO LOUD.

It would be, but it's also never going to happen in this day and age.

Then people should turn the volume down, that's what I do if music's too loud.

The Loudness War is a sonic “arms race” where every artist and label feel they need to crush their
music onto CD at the highest possible level, for fear of not being “competitive” – and in the process
removing all the contrast, all the light, shade and depth – ruining the sound.
This is what I'm talking about, it's about more than volume.

I hear that in Death Magnetic and a little on this, but it certainly doesn't mar my enjoyment of the albums. I didn't even
notice until I saw all the controversy on wikipedia and sites like this.

Hahaha, oh Talons, the funniest thing about this is that I'm not even sure if you're joking.

If you have a half decent sound system, loudness is a serious hindrance to a lot of albums... Loudness is meant to adapt to people's tendency to listen to music on the cheapest earphones they can find, so the albums can still be discerned. In every other case, it's just really noisy and causes headaches. Some albums are worse than others, but Mr Rubin is a prime offender.

It gives me headaches at times, wish the production was better, because I really like this album.

That's the question isn't it ;)
Rick Rubin is known to juggle lots of projects at once so that might contribute to the music in his albums not having enough room to breathe, so to speak.

Honestly I don't know what causes it, I type it in like I always have. Jamie's posts seem to act the same
way.
