NOW LOOK! LOOK! LOOK AT HIS TOWER OF STOOOOOOOOOOOONE!
Never fails to give goosebumps, actually fairly existential for Dio's fantasy lyrics

Never fails indeed. From that point onward the song is even more epic, if that's possible.

It's funny I bought a CD of this back in August but didn't give it attention until finals week in June. Stargazer has since become my favorite use of strings in rock/metal, infinitely better than stuff like Kashmir (and I'm a big Zep fanboy)

I gave Stargazer a shoutout in my debut album (used the I-VII descending string vamp over the outro of one of my songs). I'm pretty sure nobody noticed though.

I'd be interested to hear that, got a link to the song?

I love Zep but I never got the massive hype around Kashmir. They wrote a great riff but I don't feel like they ever go anywhere with it

The problem with Kashmir is probably the lack of a good solo, it is just the same thing for 8 minutes

Kashmir has a couple of nice sections that crop up throughout its 8 minutes but nothing as good as their blues epics/Stairway/many of the songs on Physical Graffiti. But I'm the weird guy who thinks Ten Years Gone is their best song so

Achilles is top 3, love that proto-metal but Ten Years just gets to me

If you don't understand the hype behind Kashmir you have an issue with identifying innovative sounds. That song is one of the most copied songs in rock and doesn't sound like anything before it.

Oh it's definitely unique for its time, it just doesn't grab me
@sevengill I suck at identifying chord progressions but nice tune, a bit heavy on keyboards for my taste but I can dig it

I see your point Friday man but I agree with MrGentleman that
"The problem with Kashmir is probably the lack of a good solo, it is just the same thing for 8 minutes"
|
| |
especially the 2nd half of the statement, lack of solo isn't too bothersome

@elcrawfodor thanks, I really appreciate that you gave it a listen. that album is all keyboards actually, since I don't play guitar and did it on my own. the other Taravana album is less keyboard-y if you're interested.

That's fine, but like what SCREAM! said earlier is a bit silly. It is repetitive and you don't have to love it, but if you can't see why other people think it's amazing that's nuts. I would take a unique sound instead of hitting all the obvious checkmarks like "blues solo" and "under 4 minutes."

Oh I'm under the influence of a fair amount of beer right now so I didn't notice it was ALL keyboards, but knowing that's the case well done! I'll wish list them in bandcamp and check out the full lengths later

@friday totally understand its unique sound with the middle eastern influence, the orchestral sound, and the effects on Bonzo's drum, it just never entranced me the way a song that repetitive should though. As a prog fan I don't care if it's under 4 minutes or not though
