yea everything get's gay eventually but the problem is when a genre is destined to remain gay for eternity. Post-Hardcore needs some testosterone in it's veins; Black Flag raping the girls from La Dispute.

Black Flag raping the girls from La Dispute.
from the sounds of the vocals on their records, it may have been happening in the studio

damn, and yes Yankee (It's Gian btw :]). Whenever I hear hyperbolic pseudo-claims like "Asking is sooooooooo good, they are way better than all this 21st century bands." or something like "You'll get used to the screams, highs and lows. Don't worry friend". It's so gay, makes me want to jam some Whiplash's "Power Thrashing Death."

lol, thread's finally becoming decent.

It's sad to hear people refer to breakdown-heavy Rise records bands as "post hardcore"

Going back to post rock. What is the last post rock band you guys heard that actually didnt just sound like the same old shit? That was original? I like some post rock but its like every new band I hear I know how its going to sound before I hear it. Again I guess you can say this about every genre, but the term "post rock" should mean more experimentation.

It's usually bands that are listed under multiple genre tags with "post-rock" as just one of them.
I heard some songs by a band named Lights out Asia that sounded ok.

Ha yea thats what I look for too. Shit with like 3+ genre tags at least seems like it could be interesting. But if something is just labeled as Post-Rock its probably gonna sound like every other Post-Rock band.

When a sub-genre gets an official list of characteristics and a band can be called just one, that's usually a bad sign.

this hasn't even come out yet but it has 31 pages and is already #2 of the year

Thats why Ive always dug stuff thats labeled Progressive, Avant-Garde, or Experimental.
Stuff people cant just slap a label on so easily.
Some of it might suck but you'll find alot of cool shit you might not have heard before.

alright this like a 4.1-2 for me now. the drone tracks are alright but they bring the overall down
if i'm just rating 1 and 3 it's an easy 4.5

I'll most likely end up listening to it tomorrow. It seems slightly lazy that the only material that was really new was the drone tracks, though.

It's a good album "AStableReference," the two main tracks are amazing songs that really deserve a 5 or 4.5 rating. The drones are "ok," but they fit very well and the transition doesn't feels forced. Maybe if they added a 3rd 20 minute song this would have been a 5 or 4.5 - otherwise a solid 4.

Not sure about the first one, lot of bands don't know what progressive means. Progressive is moving forward, exploring. Many acts focus on pre-conceived notions of the term and tend to play another brick in this huge progressive aesthetic "wall".

True Gian thats what I said a couple pages ago. "Progressive" has become a generic term just like "Alternative".
Alternative started out as shit that couldnt just be classified so easily and was a little fringe but then it just turned into
generic over saturated crap.
Even with that though chances are a progressive band might have a couple more tricks up their sleeve than just a
straightforward one to me.

I'm very updated when it comes to post-rock. I know just way too much post-rock bands that own an interesting and fresh sound. I'm just too lazy to add 50 bands to the sputnikbase and make a list. If you guys requested or helped me then maybe. Here's one:

Mouse on the Keys, really interesting amalgamation of post-rock/math-rock/nu-jazz and ambient. Amazing band, everything they release is pure genius.

Leech, very well executed modern post-rock with a math-rockish + ambient twist. Their albums evoke strong emotions and paint interesting atmospheres. Mysterious & nostalgic bliss. Recommended.
