"Plus at least half of PT play on his solo stuff"
Well he's kind of semi-permanenetly recruited the guys for Raven and now for his next album as well

He plays Trains wherever he goes

Actually, when I saw him live last year (incredible show btw) the only PT song he played was Radioactive Toy as the encore.

Really? well he does that a lot but I suppose it was about time he changed things up a bit. radioactive Toy huh? interesting choice

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the choice of song either, but it happened to make an awesome encore, because the whole crowd started singing along in the chorus and it ended the song in a pretty epic way. But he came back for a second encore after. Even though you don't dig his solo career as much as I do, I'd say his solo shows are really worth it, all the songs sound deeper and way more intense.

I have nothing wrong with his solo career, but it just comes at a time where I'm not really into the 70's style and I think it's pretty boring and bland. What was intense was the chorus of blackest eyes followed by that amazing riff. man, I don't think his solo career will ever top that

Yeah, that's pretty hard to top, but, I'd say there are a lot of moments in his solo career that gave me goosebumps

well I love the work the man does, so I tried. I don't think i'm into the 70's prog style in general

This whole album shows a different (and much better) side to Wilson than most of his discog, not only does it have by far his best vocal performance but it also shows him at his most creative (although I'm not sure how much of that came from Akerfeldt). This is undoubtedly one of the best things he's done in my mind.
Agreed, man. I think everyone here knows that I have a soft spot for Steven's other work, but I really wish Steven would make folk albums like these because he just feels so at home within this type of sound. Although, I'm more than sure that a lot of the 'Comus-meets-latter era-Scott-Walker' sound comes from Mikael. Also, Jamie, how are you liking Pale Communion? I know this is a question best fit for an actual Opeth thread or your shoutbox but I'm too lazy to go over there.

Oh yes. The title track of this comes so easily to both of them and it's amazing how SW doesn't do more of that kind of stuff. However you could argue that Akerfeldt is the folk of those two, given how much he put into Opeth

Can't decide if I like this more than PC or not. Both 4.5s for sure

At least tell me you like Still Life more since you gave that a 3 too if I remember correctly

A Big fat 3 :-). I just don't understand what's so great about it. It doesn't stand out at all in the Opeth heavies to me

SL is actually weird for me because the four heavys toward the beginning all have great parts, but a lot of sections that annoy me too as you know from our debate about The Moor. That's why I love the last three so much. But I think I have it 5'd for some reason, it's definitely a 4.5 at the most for me though
