Bloody hell, I jammed this for the first time in over a year and Floating is still a no go zone for me. I cannot explain how important that song was for me in my troubled days

Scott really was a phenomenal lyricist. First to mind is always this from The Twist:

Did you blush then when our hips touched?

I can’t tell, we are already red

Am I right? Are you giving me the signs?

Is that pink mist or just lit dry ice?

I mean how evocative of the flutters of nervous love is that?

This album is very good but it also gives me a rather poor aftertaste for some reason.

I don’t know Phero - the songwriting is mostly good but some songs are a tad annoying, Mumford & Sons-ish almost, and the thing is right on the verge of being over-saccharine/kind of try-hard. But most of it is really great, I don’t want to hate on it. There’s just something keeps me from fully embracing it.

I had that exact same problem with the album when I first got into it for a month or so but Scott's lyrics resonate more than most and that really shifted my view. Completely get that though

Yeah, there’s definitely a case to be made that Winter of Mixed Drinks is the stronger album, especially from a musical perspective.

But fuck, this record makes none of that feel like it matters, and there’s still so many interesting choices all up and down, even outside Scott’s writing.

Poke's (rightly) got its benefactors!

What I want to see is some talk on how powerfully Good Arms vs Bad Arms sneaks up on ya for a gut punch

haha I always thought Good Arms was the most acclaimed song on here by far, but the spread of opinions on this album is surprisingly wide (apparently there are people who don't like Head Rolls Off? ridiculous)

Poke is one of my favourite post-breakup reflection songs ever !

i might never catch a mouse and present it in my mouth,
to make you feel you're with someone who deserves to be with you

Yeah Pokes lyrics are brilliant. I've always been hit by this part, also because of Scott's delivery:

We can change our partners

This is a progressive dance but

Remember it was me who dragged you up to the sweaty floor

Idk, it just works. Also the verse about the photographs [2]
