I had just started playing guitar at that point, and holy shit, this album was an eye opener. I had mostly been listening to, uh... Weird Al and the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

They're pretty poppy, honestly if you've heard too much scene music these guys might not sound like anything special. I love this record to death but it was ripped off so many times it's lost a bit of its impact for first time listeners

scene music is metalcore/post-hardcore post-2005 that is essentially just commercial pop under an "emo" exterior
asking alexandria, pierce the veil, etc

The title of this is more relevant than ever given recent events in Vegas. I mean, Vegas is associated with chilled out fun times and people forget that it's anything other than that and that people live there.. Yet it's where many have been killed. I'm not making light of it, I'm just saying, they're onto something - no matter how relaxed an environment you think you're in, safety is an illusion.

the title is a quote from fight club, maybe ten minutes into the movie when edward norton is on the plane

I doubt they named the album after a Fight Club quote.

does that not strike you as something they would do

Not really. The title comes from a lyric in the Red Death, which is based on an Edgar Allan Poe story.

I’m aware of the line; but considering that The Red Death also paraphrases Romeo and Juliet I’m willing to believe they just worked in the line because it made thematic sense. Have you read the Masque of the Red Death? Does Poe use that phrase?
