abum is bad compared to other 'peth

I've always failed to see why people thought this album was subpar for them. I think this album really shows their songwriting prowess and diversity more than any of their other albums. I still like their other albums, but this one gets way too much undeserved crap. At the very least it's definitely better than Orchid and Morningrise. It's much more well put together.

Sweet, cheers guys. I'm downloading SL now, and will get BWP after i've had a chance to listen to SL enough to appreciate all of it.

I think this isnt as strong as some of their other works. It's like something is missing. Harlequin forest could well be one of the best songs they ever did however.

Mostly compared to their other stuff. This album could put to shame a lot of stuff out there.

My normal rating would be 4 based on the music but I lowered it because I dont feel like listening to it when I see this cd among the others I own (Opeth or not)

An awesome album, no question. Probably the most accessible Opeth album to date and the best summation of their sound for newcomers. Harlequin Forest is simply epic, and you gotta love a band with the balls to release The Grand Conjuration as a single. I can imagine the confused faces of teeny poppers the world over as they flick past it while watching the usual dross that infects the likes of MTV.

I'm tied between Blackwater park and this, both are very good albums.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that Still Life was the only Opeth cd worth owning. I was wrong. It took some time , 4 years to be exact , but I finally realized that GR is as a fine release as SL.
