If a song is composed of hard, slow, and wanky, then I would posit that it is terribly done masturbation and not music at all.

Strangely enough, this analogy works perfectly for BtBaM.

This sounds painful, like listening to the transistions on this album.......................zing!

Oh, are those the transitions? I figured they were the sections on the album where someone forgot they hadn't finished an idea yet.

I do not hate Opeth, I merely wish they condensed and focused their ideas. I would like BtBaM to do this too, but then someone would still need to find a new 'singer' for them.

How do you mean condense their ideas? They're songs transistion from one moment to another so well, 10 minutes just doesn't seem long enough. I hear you though, not the first time I've ever heard that argument stated about the band.

I don't know. I would be disappointed if they cut their song length down and condensed everything. With this band and Opeth, I can listen for 10+ minutes no problem and just enjoy what I hear.

Listened to this in full again last night, loving it.

This band is so unfocused a kindergarten a capella could put them to shame. Opeth need to condense their ideas because a lot of their songs end up rambling. They're a lot better than BtBaM because they don't throw random sections in to try to hide how boring the rest of their music is.

lol thats why they throw in random sections, so they can attempt to mask how monotonous they are? i guess i missed that segment when i was watching the making of tgm

lol random sections, this album has no random sections. If this was colors u would have a valid arguement because colors has random goofy sections that don't make sense. But TGM has what was random about colors and integrates it much better. Just look at fossil, yes its quirky, even a bit cheesy at times but it hardly comes off as random because its all coherent in the song. The only song that has a shit load of wankery is STTM, which is like a dream theater jam at the end only its much more tasteful than most DT jams.

But is it is all perspective, ppl who like DT will like the instrumental jam in STTM, those who don't will most likely hate it.

I like how you say my assertion is silly just by repeating it to me. Effective argument. The next time someone says I'm stupid, by your logic, I should merely yell "LOL STUPID LOL" at him, and surely, he will know how ridiculous he sounds.

This album is more focused than Colors, yes. However, that does not justify its inconsistency. Your affinity makes you blind to subjectivity.

ok
1) youre saying the ONLY song that has a shitload of wankery (which is one of the chief gripes we "haters" have with the album) is the 17 minute one at the end, which is the longest track by a mile and also the last impression one gets of the album.
2) The opening of fossil is the most bullshit thing i've ever heard since someone here said brand new was the best band of the new millenium.
3) you can't integrate randomness better or worse than previous randomness because IT'S RANDOM
4) This album sucks
