I like Walk In The Shadows
Gonna Get Close To You is kinda weird here though. I know it's a cover, but still

^That comment didn't age well, and it's just a few minutes old lmao
But seriously, I think the album aged fine

@kalk: Sure, but gotta give them kudos for covering such a strange song back then. Kind of a risky move in an era where bands like Iron Maiden and Metallica were the heavy hitters in metal (granted, they were both going through a prog phase of their own)... even riskier having it as a single

Koris, They opened with Walk In The Shadows a couple of times when I saw their live shows and it changed the entire perspective of the song for me, particularly Geoff’s vocals and how he delivered some of those lines. Ever since then, it’s easily my favorite.

Somewhere theres a vid of them opening with Neue Regel and I felt vindicated for thinking that would have been a god-tier opener in their trench coat era

Still in my top 3 Queensryche albums

Man, I love the way the bass slides up during the solo section of Neue Regel. Adds so much more depth and nuance to those harmonies

That's a contender for my favorite Queensryche song
Bass in London is also very catchy
I know it's not usually loved but I've always thought the cover of Gonna Get Close to You was killer and a perfect fit for the album with the weird mish mash of goth libido (that "plot twist" in the video! lmao. If you needed another reason to believe they were into the Vampire Chronicles at the time) with mechanical sound design (def an headphones song!) and that cheesily haunting guitar lead throughout. It covers more ground than expected too, with all the little sections and satisfying transitions like ~2:30, ~2:50 and I can't forget that mini solo at ~3:20

Yeah man, Gonna Get Close To You is my favorite cover of all time. Fits perfectly on this album. Such a gripping tune.

Finally ordered this on CD.
The remaster on Tidal is awful (at least the one I tried).

There's a sinister feeling to much of Gonna Get Close to You, and even if I don't love listening to it I have to say it's one of the most successful covers I've ever heard. It's super uncomfortable. Geoff is of course wild on it, as with most of this album, but man what a vibe they achieve in that second verse.

Getting on this now! M///
