I've been trying for 10 years to get into this album. I just can't. One Arm Scissor and Invalid Litter Department are great songs though.

I find most of the album unlistenable. I realize there is exceptional musicianship here, hence the 3 rating, but really, from a listenability standpoint this is a 2 for me. Just not my thing.

i can see that, and tbh it took a few years before I got it, although that was probably more the product of me being absoutely sick and tired of hearing One Armed Scissor on the radio in high school.

It's almost unlistenable due to being in awe of the amazing musicianship.

On Quarantined I always think he's screaming "and I'll drink it with Jell-O!" even though it's "have trigger, will travel".

I got so fucking pissed when I find out he wasn't shouting "Get away! Get away!"

I always thought it was "Cut away"?

Hahah my friend still refuses to admit that isn't the line, even after like three years of knowing the truth.

But since when has Cedric ever been known to write lyrics that actually stick to a consistent theme?
|
| |
A close enough reading of almost all his lyrics shows pretty clear themes. But if you asked him, he would probably tell you to stop intellectualizing his music and that the words don't mean anything.

I know his lyrics are really "pretentious" and whatnot, but I adore the whole random poetry thing he does. Just his pronunciation of each lyric is brilliant and his phrasing is really unique.

Agreeeeeed. Especially with At the Drive-In, and to a lesser extent in the Volta.

so fucking true. his phrasing and syllabic emphasis make tmv and atdi's music/lyrics so much more interesting for me. especially in pattern against user
