Well, that's your opinion I guess. TDAG just doesn't strike me as a whole like this album does, although it does have some of their best songs like Sowing Season and Millstone.

I prefer this to TDAG. It's more youthful and optimistic. I feel like TDAG is almost the result of Jesse having maybe a mid life crisis or something, because of the introspective yet pessimistic nature.

This album, I feel like it sums up a lot of the anxieties and fears of growing up. The cathartic element is very strong. But it also carries that underlying tone of searching for love and beauty, and hope.

Apparently they're working on "happy" music for the next album (according to wikipedia). That will be interesting. Jesse has wrote some melodic upbeat stuff in the past, so I am optimistic.

The National's high violet started as the band working on happy songs..and we all know that's the opposite of how that

album turned out...

so who knows.

I don't want brand new to make a happy album just for the sake of not being depressing

as long as it is sincerely emotional, whatever that emotion is, it will be amazing

Sowing Season, thats true. If they're sincerely happy, then it'll be awesome. But trying to be what they're not wont work.

Idk if its because this came out awhile ago and was huge when it did...but i reallllllllllllllllllllllllly don't see how this could ever be praised so much? I really like it but still...maybe it's becuase there are a lot of bands that sound sorta like this nowadays and weren't really when it came out? idk

@Narshh because it's mindblowingly important to a bunch of people. I can't really look at this album objectively.
