They're quite clearly their lesser tracks. But still in 4.0 territory hahaha. Portishead probably have my highest discog average from any group.

i think that the sequencing of deep water is part of the reason why i don't like machine gun. the transition makes the harsh beats even more intolerable

This is consistently excellent. Least favorite tracks are Plastic and Machine Gun.
Deep Water is a nice little acoustic song, can't really understand someone thinking it's either one of their best or worst.
It's a Fire is an accurate pick for least great on Dummy, but still a solid song.

Who tf listens to portishead for "nice little acoustic songs" that's why

Worst Portishead song is either Elysium or Seven Months. Don't even "dislike" either of 'em, really, but like Pots said, they're just the ones I like least most. Deep Water would be right behind them, I guess, though I think it works just fine in the context of Third which is Portishead toying with a lot of different musical tendencies. And at barely over a minute, it is not bothersome.

'This album is an absolute beast on good headphones my goodness.' (2) - one of the greatest production jobs of all time, it sounds incredible.

Oh dear.
I don't mind Deep Water in the context of the album, but it has to be the worst song here and probably the least important individual cut from any of their 3 album's 'mainstays'. It wouldn't stop me giving this perfect marks, so I guess it has to count as passable at worst.

'Hooverphonic > Portishead'
I like them, but c'mon this is a ridiculous statement.

"the least important individual cut from any of their 3 album's 'mainstays"
big disagree. that track has a pretty big impact on how I view this as a whole and offers a radically different (but not less cogent) take on the vulnerability and fragility that this album is fundamentally geared towards, for me. you could cut Plastic or Nylon Smile and I'd barely notice, but take Deep Water out and it's suddenly a different album

A veritable more-than-the-sum-of-its-parts situation here. I agree Johnny. Deep Water is more important for the album and one could see it as 'better' from that point of view, but individually I'd take the others over it any day.

Johnny: It's the least important individual cut from the perspective of treating them as INDIVIDUAL tracks. I don't mind it as part of the album, as it appears to serve some purpose (although you are overstating it's significance). I can't imagine cutting a track like Nylon Smile in order to keep it - if I was given that decision to make.

Who's angry? Lol. Okay I used one all caps word, so apologies for contributing.
I think we should all start shouting at you Mr. 4.0, YOU CLEARLY DON'T LOVE THIS ENOUGH!
