I honestly like the folkier tracks on here best. Casimir Pulaski Day is fantastic

he's definitely at his best on the stripped down folk tunes

Yeah. The other tracks just seem too caught up in their quirkiness to really say something. The instrumentation is wonderful and all, but that's not gonna keep me fully entertained for a 7 minute track unless you're gonna do something interesting with it.

Seven Swans and Carrie and Lowell just bored me after a few spins. I feel like Age of Adz and the quicker tracks on here are better. Casimir is good though.

That's mainly why I prefer Age Of Adz over this. Sure, most of the tracks are pretty long, but at least the production is bringing me something I haven't heard before. I actually really love "Impossible Soul", 25 minute runtime and all

What songs are 7 minutes long other than The Tallest Man
Which is such a good song

His standard folk tracks just feel horribly lacking in variety, and when he has tracks that go past five minutes they just become a drag. For me at least, never was the Sufjan fan anyways.

well almost none of the songs pass the 7 min mark, but they just feel like they drag on for so much longer than the 6 min.

Come On! Feel the Illinoise! is 6 minutes and so fun
Chicago is 6 minutes and epic and emotional
The Man of Metropolis is 6 minutes and is very diverse from the rest and has amazing lyrics

Nothing about this drags
Every bit brings something new, something emotional, something fun

I agree that the folkier songs are the best. The orchestral ones are fun but they mostly sound like anyone could have made them. Come On Feel the Illinoise is an exception, that song is amazing.

I've rated 656 albums on this site and nothing I've heard quite sounds like this

It's just that as orchestral stuff while good they're not masterpieces of orchestral music and for the most part don't evoke a ton of emotion.

I'm not really saying this album is boring. Not at all, theose tracks are fun to put on every once and a while. But nothing really pulls me to listen to them that often
