Yeah Change of Seasons, Learning to Live and Home (in no particular order) are my favourite DT songs ever.

the lyrics of Count of Tuscany are incredibly lame plus the first half of it is pretty much just shitty wannabe Metallica, the second half rules hard though

I've never gotten any metallica vibe from that song. The vibes I've gotten in terms of influence are Yes and Floyd. I'll relisten later because I'm going to be spinning Black Clouds anyway but I highly doubt I'm going to agree with you.

yeah true it's not their most Metallica-esque song (ToT is full of them) but it's definitely more that than Yes and Floyd imo

And Train of Thought does have some metallica influence but not as much as you're making out. You need to stop attributing every recent DT album that has metal riffs with one band.

actually in the 2000s Portnoy wanted them to sound more like Metallica, which is especially well shown on ToT. obviously not all of their metal riffs sound like Metallica, Octavarium was basically the opposite of ToT in that way, that's one reason why i really like Octavarium

Judging by Portnoy's backing vocals on SC and Black Clouds he also wanted DT to sound like Opeth...

I have never listened to a DT song and thought that it sounds like a Metallica song.

Yeah those semi growls were pretty awful haha but not enough to detract from the songs overall imo.
