Yeah well that is just my personal experience with mastodon fans, but it's a minor reason as to why I dislike them in the grand scheme of things.

I listened to Crack the Skye and I could barely get all the way through it was the dullest thing ever

i guess the main difference is i don't think any of those bands you mentioned are very good, but i've yet to be disappointed by a mastodon album (even the hunter)

Even I find some joy in a few djent bands since there are so many out there, there manage to be a few decent ones and Deafheaven were pretty innovative so I don't mind them, but I just can't like Mastodon

"and Deafheaven were pretty innovative"

i mean i couldn't see that in a thousand years, that sound is at least a decade older than sunbather and has been done better numerous times

Really? Which bands were doing that before then?

Speaking of hipsters when I joined this site I thought it would be full of nerds but if anything it seems to have more of a hipster problem

I know Wolves but honestly they approach it from a completely different angle to Deafheaven, I wouldn't say they're even close to similar

depends on the perspective i guess, as someone who was already immersed not only in the genre but in this particular style at the time sunbather came out, the album just felt like more of the same to me. not bad though

This record as a whole is enjoyable, though it has the occasional tendency to meander. I'd like to get on the band's other releases soon, particularly The Way of All Flesh as I hear that's Gojira at their peak. Meanwhile, I'll leave this here

After listening to the first two albums, I have to bump this to a 3.5 (from a 3), this album was Gojira's first serious attempt in writing songs with flow.

It may be a little too saturated, it feature irresistible titles such as "Flying Whales" and others. Completely disagree with this review. 4/5
