he tries so hard to be something that he's not, all of a sudden he's a 70's prog rockster.....opeth expired after watershed......even with all that, this has some good moments but with zero staying power
|
| |
Folklore has huge staying power. It's one of my favorite Opeth songs ever, the last couple minutes are pure euphoria.

highlight of the album for sure
|
| |
My biggest issue with this is that songs have ideas that go all over the place with no real transitions or purpose. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Haxprocess is easily the best on here and easily one of the best songs the band has ever done.
Mikael had ripped off 70's prog artists in the past more blatantly than he does on any song on here, so he's hardly all of a sudden trying to be someone he's not just by dropping the death metal elements.

yeah cause pre-heritage opeth is drenched in 70 prog rock.....ridiculous
|
| |
Pre-Heritage Opeth (particularly Still Life onwards) is 70's prog rock influences mixed with metal, everyone knows that.

make it work bro
|
| |
If he'd continued to mix the prog elements with death metal then he would be trying to be someone he's not because that's clearly not where he is musically anymore.

please highlight SEVENTIES prog rock on still life, blackwater, etc....
|
| |
How about Benighted sounding almost like a cover of Camel's Never Let Go? Something that has been well documented by fans and critics alike.

the Orange amplifier effects are so prevalent on those albums

Smh. I'm done.
Love you Titan.

nice acoustic passages with basic drumming and soft vocal tones = 70's prog rock?
so i guess 70's prog rock is sprinkled on to most rock albums released over the last 40 years
