Must be MAYH, with GR, Heritage and Morningrise close behind, always changing for 2nd place. This comes soooo close to joining them though... Yours?

So all of us agree on Ghost Reveries being (one of) their best. Good. Fantastic record. They nailed that style completely and it did not feel forced.

Even as a 16/17 year old extreme metal was non existent to me, first time I remember hearing it was Cradle of Filth on TV & at the time I didn’t know what to make of it & went back to my indie nonsense.
My wife, who’s actually quite knowledgeable vs your average U.K. resident for the more mainstream genres had never even heard of Opeth. I guess that goes for most metal, you have to actively seek it out, which is hard if you’re not even sure you like it yet, haha. If I only Metallica or Tool interested me more as a kid, that & nu-metal was essentially all I was regularly exposed to.

Actually come to think of it I like some SOAD but don’t think that was till slightly later on, first metal band I properly got into was Mastodon & Blood Mountain, quite the induction.

I started with your typical nu-metal at like 13-14 years old, got into metalcore around 16-17, and then I just kept going into more extreme metal and have not looked back since. I still listen to every genre out there but I am much more focused on any type of metal than anything else. I say this as I'm jamming new Interpol.
