checking my post-rock tagged faves (RYM) and erm no I refuse to claim An Evil Heat is my #1 because despite having 'elements of' the genre perhaps, that just sounds wrong to me
Pygmalion is closer to being a genuine pick but certainly is more in-line with the spirit of post-rock's initial designation
This is third, which fits in with a familiar theme looking at much of the remainder
post-rock was definitely better before it became an actually easily definable genre with tried and tested tropes looking at this list, confirmation bias but... yeah
average year 1996(.5) for 4.5s+ (Glenn Branca is a bit of a cheat code here, lol)

I did enter the thread with the sole intention of proclaiming my undying love for this but got distracted. It really is a one of a kind album. The guitar tones and quiet / loud dynamic has rarely been used to evoke such an atmosphere and the vox are so affecting in a distant, hushed kinda way.
It's a weird album in that I almost forget how impactful it can be. It exists as a distant memory that's never quiiiite accurate and doesn't do it justice... until I revisit

Made me chuckle. Always enjoy reading your novellas, but some prefer to jam (and be self-proclaimed hypemen).

that was perhaps(?) next on my list as a REAL consideration, thus enforcing the theory even further - i.e. formative or first-wave etc.
...even if I end up reaching for Mark Hollis's s/t album with greater regularity
