It's just crazy seeing a band get more popular and then getting heavier as a result so I'm intrigued by KL's ascent. Even if I wasn't a fan I gotta admire how neat it is that a band that crazy is "mainstream" enough to be on Kimmel.

Frontierer is honestly too much for me but I can see why people who love constant heaviness would like them

Meshuggah to me is like the techno equivalent of metal. Gotta lock in, embrace that groove and get totally lost in it. Seeing them live and jamming Catch 33 is what truly made their sound make sense to me.

I listed them (Front) as an example of production making that heavy thing even heavier. It’s a desire to push things to the limits without (in my eyes) actually achieving a notable moving of the needle

Unfortunately I think a lot of bands rely on that now even if they’re technically not offering anything new. I feel similarly about KL even if they have different overall influences

Meshuggah was such a weird click for me bc for years they didn't work but all of a sudden I understood it. They are super mechanical, clinical, but some of those grooves put me in a trance. I'll never say I prefer them over the bands they influence that move it in a more melodic / emotional direction but they're a good basis

I respect what Meshuggah have achieved, I just think they sound bad (and as a secondary have influenced countless terrible others bands)

so basically how i feel w Pantera inspiring 5FDP and the hypermasculine attitude. i hear ya, i think i just have more patience for what they were trying to do and i can't deny that Periphery does somethin to my brain so i gotta thank shug and SikTh for that lol

hey on the bright side, at least u can tell i came to my 5's on my own bc it isn't only stuff that everyone else loves (i've seen quite a few lists that look so generic and predictable)

a grammy nom will do that for ya, also it helps that poppy is featured and she is pretty marketable too for the three self-hating women who watch kimmel (poppy has also done a bunch of work with WWE for example so she has "mainstream" access to a certain extent)

honestly, suffocate doesn't make nearly as many waves if she wasn't on it

i can believe that, no doubt poppy helped, the fact that Knocked Loose didn't have to "water down" their sound to get to Kimmel is still pretty amazing but I def can see Poppy's influence playing a role

While the Kimmel thing is certainly sick, it's not like he's never had core bands on before. He's had Asking Alexandria and Every Time I Die on for example! But still cool to see it cause it had been a while, plus Knocked Loose deserves it
