It isn't fair to the band also, though. Jesse was the singer. The band play very well together and are very creative. Also, something else I've been thinking about that's also unpopular to say: I really like that Jesse made those vulnerable songs exposing himself and then we find out he really is a fucked up person and made some real mistakes in his life.
Unlike some others, when I listen to the band now, it's even more impactful because I know for sure that Lacey was really struggling and means what he's singing when he's beating himself up in these lyrics. Especially on Devil and God.
I know I'm defending him and I'm biased but when I listen to songs like 'Handcuffs' I can't avoid feeling really really sad for this guy. The lyric ''It's hard to be the better man, when you forget you're trying. It's hard to be the better man, when you're still lying'' is extremely heartbreaking knowing what we know now that he really meant what he was singing and was a damaged person.
I can't make myself like.. attack and berate Jesse. Simply because as far as I can tell, he's beaten himself up for over a decade in his songs.

I'm so confused with this whole scenario. I've seen everything from "Jesse's a (literal) rapist" to "he only shared nudes with a minor" to, "the bitch is crazy and is using him to get attention".
All I feel is sad. And I want to believe that even though he did awful things (that are still unclear to me), that he could still grow and become a better person. Aren't we allowed redemption arcs? where do we draw the line?
