I need to give this another go but as it stands it's my least favorite Radiohead record outside of Pablo Honey

the track-to-track transitions are seamless. totally clean except maybe Burn the Witch into Daydreaming. I can see how some might feel that one's a little abrupt. But the rest sound impeccable to me, especially Decks Dark thru Present Tense. that whole stretch is a dream. i particularly dig the way the acoustic guitar in Disk slides right out of Decks Darks' sudden silence
idk the album appears underwhelming at first because of how soft and inoffensive it is, but it's also amazingly detailed and varied and just a damn fine emotional experience. it's funny, Radiohead have finally completely humanized, and yet people are still giving them shit

haha i feel that. i still remember when ok computer was revolutionary like it was yesterday
|

Who the fuck ever wanted radiohead to "completely humanize"? Lmao
Literally the best thing about them has always been their weird surreal androidisms
|
| |
But actually yeah thanks for saying that because that's a good point for another reason why this is their worst since before ok comp

Heart, depth, richness, weight, attachment. Couple of other things.

i think it's fair to say that people have an interest in seeing transformations... Radiohead went from generic grunge/alt rock to surreal androidisms, and starting with In Rainbows i think they began a process of humanization, albeit with some of the surrealness still intact. This album I think is them as humanized as possible while still remaining Radiohead, and i just think that's a really cool concept. i think you could make an argument for this being their best album, as it's definitely the cleanest and most polished thing they've ever done, and all the songs are good enough to justify that kind of polish.

i do really like this but i a lot of songs on here are pretty forgetable. they sound good but they don't have much replay value for me. there are only two, maybe 3 songs on here that i would put along radiohead's best

"In regards to his last point there tho I can see that for the first half of the album but there is no contrast between the last like 4 songs at all"
Yeah the contrast between one track and the next definitely drops around The Numbers. Though I think that works for the album thematically, with the last few songs aching with a sense of surrender, I must admit that is my least favourite run on the album. A shame, because the songs themselves are top drawer imo

"Flagot" lmao.
Decks dark is best here by far imo, rest is half good half snoozefest, probably closer to a 3 if i'm being strict.

I slept on Decks Dark for a bit because I was so into a few other songs, but it has easily crept into my top 3 here.
