"Somehow they can live e.g. with joining a whole culture of excusing pedophile priests. Because... what? That is truly alarming."

Holy shit. You seriously don't think in that 1,000 years+ there has been no benefit to people having that sense of community/unity/charity that would give people direction in their lives and provide some sense of purpose or hope for people?

I'm not going to argue for its truth claims with you - I'm not a Christian myself, and even if I was this is not exactly the forum for productive theological debate, but to say "it's pure evil, everyone mom and pop shop I see is complicit in rape and incest" is just a fucking wild worldview to have, my dude.

Many people use the image of Christ as one of love and peace - just because there are bad people that exist in the world, you are ignoring probably hundreds of thousands of people who have used Christianity to either turn their lives around for the better or who have just used it as a guide from the beginning of their lives to be a giving and loving person.

Not everyone reads the bible and says "oh, now I'm pro-rape and slavery" lmfao

Also yeah, this album riffs hard dude m///

"And it is demonstratively filled with evil. Surely the actual bait is people who think it's good vibes."

Again, don't look at people for the right example, you'll be thoroughly disappointed. That's the reason why I turned my back to Christianity when I was a teenager. Now I realize that it wasn't the faith that was the problem, it was the people showing the opposite of how a Christian should live.

Interesting that someone like Hawks doesn't even seem to accept that christianity has a thousand year history of serious crimes against humanity.

Do you guys also believe in Satan as a real entity?

The fact that so many sources still name Christianity as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" religion ever only tells you how far religion still is from becoming a serious system of faith. Scientists have long recognized that the greatest scientific discoveries of all time are penicillin and the theory of relativity, which were not the most popular or lucrative or most marketable breakthroughs of their times, let alone of all time. Scientology critics rank the highly controversial Tom Cruise over classical practitioners who were highly popular in suburbs around Los Angeles. Christians, instead, are still blinded by commercial success. The Bible has sold more than any other book (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the greatest. Scientists grow up reading a lot of scientific journals of the past, Scientologists grow up listening to a lot of Scientology podcasts of the past. Christians are often totally ignorant of Christian doctrines of the past, they barely know the popular scriptures.

First off, you don't know me irl to say "someone like Hawks" lol. Second off, I do accept that, but to link every single person that identifies as Christian in the same category is ignorant and flat out dumb. Sorry dude, but you sound ridiculous and uneducated.

my two cents since everyone asked:

most institutions/ideologies that have survived sufficiently long and grown sufficiently large are likely riddled with some dirt, because humans. What I personally feel that Christianity (and many other religions) suffer from is that they seldom promote critical thinking and that is easily abused by malicious forces. Evangelism also promotes spreading such doctrines to as many poor souls as possible, which I'm not very cool with. My own parents are devote Christians so it probably has added to why I'm not very keen on it as an institution. That and my own experiences with a large number of Christians. Personally I'm all for exploration of spirituality and adhering to ethical & moral codes. Empathy and exploring philosophical/epistemological ideas is very good for personal growth imo. Same for believing in something. I just don't think that Christianity offers a good enough venue for this. I'd rather people explored these ideas outside religious organizations, but also understand that the social aspect is what helps people deal with these spiritual needs. But yeah, believe in a God, any God, if that makes you more at peace. Just don't let it become a blueprint to follow and leave unquestioned. That is probably not very healthy.

lol the only tenet of faith is that if God tells you to sacrifice your child you do it, blindly and without resistance. It’s anti-reason

no, that's quite reasonable. Kids are irritating and it helps alleviate some of the issues caused by the global overpopulation crisis. Win win.

Christianity is a lot like MAGA, isn't it? You have to give up critical thinking and fully support an extremely fallible leader but in return you get a helpful community.
