Deftones are one of my all-time favorite groups just because I've followed them longer than most other bands/music I listen to now. About 14 or 15 years going now. Almost everything else has changed about my taste in music, but Deftones are still there.



But I agree. I love a lot that they do, but I wouldn't look at anything they have done as an absolute classic. Several things have come close though.

It's awesome to me how they came out with such an amazing record that is way better than White Pony. They should be proud that they overcame the "loss" of Chi and were able to churn out something so impressive.

This album is more polished I guess than White Pony but the Sextape-Risk-976 EVIL string of songs is fucking amazing. I also love Diamond Eyes and Royal. Also, Sextape's video is one of the best videos I have seen; love the effect the lights give.

1-9 are awesome. it dies down with 976-Evil and This Place is Death but they're still good songs. over time though, I could see this not having the longevity that White Pony has.

I think White Pony will most probably remain their reference album just because it has already garnered that status a long time ago. There are some bands that can release an equally good or even better album than one seen as the best but just because it is older and represents a peak that one before it, will be regarded as the best. Diamond Eyes is slightly better IMO.
