This album a lot better than SL... Vocal, riffs, atmosphere - everything fits well and has ability to flow, which is not the case with random SL. Still is outrageously cheesy with those “pop” vocals thrown in for a bad measure, it’s like entirely different band recorded this album. Just can’t get enough of that middle eastern sound in Bleak, way too good.



I never liked this band, but i can’t disagree with current rating for this album, it’s that good.

In terms of wider prestige and standing in the Real World, sure. In terms of Sputnik, where universal Opeth fandom is a moot point, not so much?

If you took a ranking poll among the active community, I think you'd find a pretty different story. Sure, it's been more common for users over the site's history to rate this if they're gonna rate one Opeth, but since anyone discussing them over the last few years likely has the majority of their discog rated, I think this is a moot point in practice
