for sure, this is in my top four Opeth. Somewhere below Morningrise and MAYH, but kinda on par with Orchid and Blackwater Park. I have such a hard time ranking this band cause the first 5 albums are all pretty much classics.

Before I start this thoughts on remastered vs not? The download I got only had the remastered version so wondering if I should seek out the none remastered version before listening.

Christ slow down you’ll make yourself sick. It’s like you’ve eaten a whopping great bag of sweets.

| |
I'm stopping and digesting at blackwater park, will give the first 5 multiple re listens after I've heard them all to form proper opinions
|
| |
I'd say do the original - remember Mikael saying somewhere how the remaster reminded him of guitar parts he forgot were even played for the record so he made it an experimental process and "highlighted" some of those...it's only moderate differences tho lol

The real question you have to ask yourself when it comes to this one is ‘is that a cough?’

Wow dude that's fast!!! But I'd go OG, remaster might give you weird vibes since you're going chronologically.
|
| |
Tbh haven't heard the original but the remaster sounds great to me

'Wow dude that's fast!!!'
I'm really enjoying the journey : D
Gonna try and find an og .flac file

Question, was the vinyl ever released as a remaster? As I've found 2 downloads, one cd rip and one vinyl rip, no idea if either are og or remaster.

Yes, there are remastered vinyls too...

Ok going of ear test and spectrogram (though could just be the rip) i'm fairly sure the cd download is og, so here we go.

Prepare to fall in love with one of their best tracks, The Moor.
|
| |
These guys always open with a killer song, that was a great start.
|
| |
The moor is amazing but actually maybe one of the weaker tracks here? Benighted through Serenity Painted Death is just unbeatable for me
|
| |
Benighted is shivers down the spine, holy shit.

"Never let Go"

Yeah Benighted is fantastic. But The Moor, Godhead's Lament and White Cluster are my personal faves.
|
| |
This was amazing, Serenity and cluster are a killer ending to and album. IF there's one flaw, the way the serenity transitions into cluster is terrible.
