"I still think it’s fair to say that most of Europe is less religious, especially now"
I think so too.
I live in the Bible belt in The Netherlands and you should see the foul looks I get from so-called Christians when I walk my dog when they're on their way to church. If you look at people for the right example, you're gonna end up gravely disappointed.

A lot of Christians look down on people and give the rest of us a bad name tbh. Me and wifey left our last church because all they did was talk about money. It was ridiculous.

my wife’s family are lovely, genuinely btw. You wouldn’t even know they were religious unless you asked. I understand the other side of the coin exists but I’ve been blessed (lul) enough to not be affected by it

I recognize that so much Hawks bro. My parents didn't want to contribute 10% of their yearly income (they were told that it's voluntary) to the church. From that moment on they got the cold shoulder from the other people in the church, so they left. They're still Christians, but they don't go to church anymore. It's sad that so many of these people ignore the most important message of Christianity: love your neighbor as you love yourself. They choose to be akin to children on a playground, bullying those that don't "fit in".

This is the way.

Also to Jr's point there are plenty of bad people that use organized religion (in this case, Christianity) as a veil for heinous acts. Continuous systematic rape of children, killing/war in the name of god, all the way down to harsh judgment of people for their lack of (or differences in) faith) etc. So the problem really isn't entirely organized religion at all, there is really no shortage of examples of Christians being bad people.
Of course this is not always the case and probably not the norm. And can be said about probably most if not every religion. But to pretend that there aren't individuals within the church, whatever sect or denomination, who are just simply terrible people is pretty naive imo

I know plenty of good people who are Christians. Hell, great people. But that's not always the case, and especially being from the US, the message is not lost on me

I went to Christian schools, attended several different churches when I grew up and lived among Christians in my home town and I've found that there's a lot of bad apples.

My beef besides a bunch of shitty people paying it lip service only is how the Abrahamic religions spiritually genocided countless cultures. This sucks ass as a mythology fan. And the new testament being fanfiction of the old makes zero cohesive sense why didn't you separate these. A lot of the religion has clearly evolved past this book why are you still clinging to it despite not following doctrine. Etc.
idk I'm in a more rural place there's a fair share more nuts around here but it's just annoyance for me. I'm probably more Christian than many Christians around here despite having zero spirituality in me at all, lol. I'm not some edgy boy decrying religion everywhere, either, though I do have a little kneejerk reaction due to where I am. I recognize the good it can do and I suppose ever so slightly envy those where faith can help them through hard times. It took a fuck of a lot of self-reflection to get myself out of super depression and back into normal depression.
But anyway random rant aside I can see the lyrics attacking the religion directly as hitting it most where it hurts: bitch about the institution and some shmuck will be like lol not my church or whatever.

yeah, definitely (before pyro’s comment)
A lot of the organised side of religion is very much a money / power thing, yet oftentimes it’s even worse because it’s masquerading as something more pure and genuine
The institution is the issue. Many individuals partake in that, but unwittingly. I imagine in more “devout” communities the indoctrination process and brainwashing aspect is so much stronger that it’s harder to avoid

I guess I was confusing organized religion with shitty individuals who bastardize the religion for one shitty reason or another.
But also, there are people who find the existence of any kind of deity as a baseline premise unlikely, or even laughable. Writing other views off such as atheism and agnosticism simply based on the idea that "Jesus is love is a good message" is kind of dangerous and silly, is it not?
Having grown up in the church and been completely surrounded by religious people in family and friends, my takeaway after 17 years was that god doesn't exist and that there are a lot of shitty and terrible things that happen in the world that kind of negate the idea of an all-loving god. Im not going to go into details, there are plenty of examples and we can all think of a lot of them. The idea of an afterlife where we are rewarded or punished eternally based on our behavior in life is a nice idea, but that's all it is. When you die, that's it.
Im not satanic or expressly "anti-christian" by any means, but I dont believe that a lot of what is written in the Bible is true or actually happened that way. I consider myself agnostic, but in the context that "the premise of Christianity is an absolute good" I will absolutely vouch for atheism

yeah, I believe much of that too
as humans we fear death and uncertainty. A lot of our wanting to believe in something greater is partly a “meaning or purpose thing” and it’s mostly just that, a need to feel secure and prolong the journey (especially if our current mortal lives are unsatisfactory in any way)
that’s not to say anyone cannot or should not believe, I just find the whole thing far-fetched

Right demon. Im not saying anyone else shouldn't believe. All I'm saying is, that's why you shouldn't think it's silly that I don't believe.
