honestly i don't think mike mccarthy is a terrible option either. say what you will about his playoff woes / the cowboys 2024 struggles but he coached dallas to three straight 12-5 seasons and dak finished 2nd in mvp voting just last year.

easily the most sure thing out of any of these guys and considering the complete bottoming out of the jags the past 1.5 seasons and their commitment to tlaw i think they need that.

@wildcard trent baalke was the gm of the harbaugh niners. harbaugh took them to three straight nfccgs and a SB despite not seeing eye-to-eye with baalke at all. after one rough 2014 season, baalke wins the power struggle and the niners fire harbaugh. the niners instantly become one of the worst teams in the league for the next three seasons. they replaced baalke with john lynch who had literally zero front office experience beforehand and pretty quickly became a contender again.

not like doug pederson is nearly the coach jim harbaugh is... but seems like baalke did it all over again lmao. i'm proud of johnson/coen doing what's right... that dude is a football terrorist and should never set foot in another building. jags are way better off now... literally nowhere to go but up in that regard. if dude can get an owner to fire both a super bowl winning and a national championship winning head coach to save himself... how do guys like johnson and coen with zero experience even stand a chance?

probably the cynic in me talking but if I’m a jags fan I’m not exactly jumping for joy that baalke’s gone. I assume they canned him bc they couldn’t get BJ but why was that the final straw? what about the blowout to the lions? the 0-4 start when you had playoff hype? the complete mess that was urban meyer’s tenure? the fact that you fucking hired urban meyer over all other suitors to develop trevor lawrence to begin with? shad khan has repeatedly proven time and again that this team is 2nd he’ll maybe 3rd fiddle in his importance as a businessman. it’s why they’re dead last in wins overall since he bought the team over a decade ago now. it’s why all of their top prospects were either busts or fucked over before they saw greener pastures. it’s why trevor lawrence is getting paid for the IDEA of what he could be when he was in college. they’ll stumble upon another lameduck GM and a mid-tier coaching prospect at their paygrade and repeat the cycle four years from now when all their good players are gone and trevor lawrence desires a new contract. hopefully it wont be another matthew stafford situation where he goes to a competent organization and wins a ring.

the jags need a gm who can take full control and keep the khans out of it, which they haven't had since they have been there. i took the firing as the khans actually acknowledging public backlash and realizing that things need to change at the high level because their team (at least the offense and d-line) are in great shape right now. baalke is also an atrocious drafter for the most part.

was their meddling that egregious? not like i'm reading the jags beat everyday but it always seemed like (nfl-wise) they were just giving the reigns to incompetent people similar to mark davis... as opposed to like a woody johnson type deal where they were actively sabotaging the team.

khan was by no means a meddler but he was patient to a fault and stuck with "his guys" for far too long. baalke being the last true Khan guy to leave is definitely for the best.
