Namedrop some well-known acts. I don't feel like going through that list to find bands I recognize.

Out of that list, I've only listened to The Microphones/Mount Eerie and they're "arguably slowcore" as you put it. I love them, though so yeah

"no, i'm saying the name "slowcore" implies a -core sound, like hardcore, metalcore, etc. i know that slowcore is actually nothing like that"

That is right on the money. Slowcore is a silly name, however it completely suggests hardcore roots, despite not really sounding like it in anyway. Thrashcore and metacore seem much more apt, but slowcore is really only used as a name because it was convenient.

Slowcore is inexplicably linked to hardcore simply because it is an indie rock based genre. Indie rock comes from post punk, which is connected to hardcore, which all leads back to punk.

Too many subgenres, instructions confused. Dick stuck in sludge metal.

except for electronic genres (which I know nothing about), I think most subgenres that matter are fairly easy to distinguish/identify.
