It's a fine album, but probably their weakest, and the vocals and lyrics took a downturn from here. This is overall more adventurous and unpredictable in the best ways.

Heritage felt like the album that would allow Mikael to REALLY experiment in the future. PC was a weak follow up imo

It was good though, just not as adventurous and self-assuredly out there as Heritage, which made it great. Opeth need to keep going in that direction and just not give af, that attitude from the thrill of going in a totally new direction with no extreme metal influences was probably a big part of why Heritage was as bold and weird sounding as it was.

Yeah PC was more dull and safe than this

1000x times this. That's why I don't like it nearly as much as Heritage.

They're both really good, but my least fav. I would take PC over this though.

Well it'll be interesting to see what the new album sounds like. If it's a mix of Heritage and Watershed then it could easily be my AOTY.

A mixture of the better parts of this and the better parts of Watershed could be one of the best things they've ever put out.

It's 2016 and people still believe in such a controversial band as is Opeth. I have faith.

I can't tell how much of that statement is ironic.

I've just heard the first teaser of the record (20 secs) and I gotta say it was enough to keep my faith intact.

Really? It's like some bad Dream Theater keyboard solo over some chugging.

What part of Morningrise sounds like that? And that keyboard solo had some serious Jordan Rudess vibes.

I can agree with the keyboard solo sounding like shit, but it's obvious that the keyboard section isn't going to make it into the album, the guy was just messing around. Well, I really hope it is that way.

My expectations are high based on the last five seconds of the teaser to be honest...

It's a rough mix of some experimenting. Will see how this works out. Also, if Rudess could play like that, DT wouldn't have become the smelly pile of garbage they are currently.

Jordan Rudess can play like that, he's extremely talented, he just sound like shit, as does that keyboard solo.
