Honestly this is the only National record that doesn't bore me

This, Alligator, and TWFM are my personal faves and 5's/borderline 5's, I've always found Boxer to be tremendously overrated though. The Cherry Tree EP has some great songs as well.

If you don't rate Boxer at least 4.5 you are a fake National fan this is a fact, sorry to break it to you

Becuase everyone loves them so much that the only relevant conversation is what your personally ranking is, I guess

This is pretty close to Boxer in terms of quality, but that'll always be my favorite. One of the best albums I've ever heard.

I've been drawn back to this album for some reason. It might be more enjoyable than I remember.

Why do y'all like Boxer? It's like the one album I 'don't get' in music history

Me too. It's just a decent indie rock album but one of the worst things this band has made.

It's as amazingly written as all of their other great albums, it has the wonderful voice and lyrics of Matt Berninger, Bryan Devendorf's astounding drumming, a good amount of variety across indie rock, post-punk revival, chamber pop, and even a bit of indie folk, all held together by extremely affecting themes of realizing that you're an adult (as Matt puts it, "a professional in my beloved white shirt") and dealing with that transition, trying to or wishing you could hold on to your carefree youth.

And, of course, it contains one of the absolute best songs ever made in Slow Show.

I really just don't see how anybody who loves anything by them can not adore Boxer.

I don't know why. To me it's just flat, and it doesn't have the emotional draw of their other albums. Just my (by most people's speculation, wrong) opinion.

I mean if Slow Show, Fake Empire, Apartment Story, Guest Room, Ada, Brainy, Gospel (basically every song lol) don't bring the feels then I don't know what does. Opinions, though.

Imo Boxer is quite a bit more emotionally affecting than Alligator.

Alligator gets Boxer level emotionally affecting with All the Wine, City Middle, and Geese, but yea Boxer is is incredible. Everything Boney said was spot on.

Could just be the order. Other than their latest, I heard Boxer last. Who knows though.

Please tell me you at least think Slow Show is amazing? We can't be friends otherwise.
