The hilarious part about this is Akerfelt openly said this is an anti-christian album. Yet it is so good that I, a Christian, would rank it their best album.

That's a testament to it's quality I'd say.

charming album

the original master is best sounding opeth. earlier albums were a little thin and everything BWP onward is sterile and overproduced imo

You opinion is perfectly fine and thanks for weighing in on this

I strongly disagree, but we tend to reach a consensus here

Such a pity for all of these bands who have more than one perfect album though Mary 😢

so close to being true, but still life actually has a lot of blatant defects in its production - and also, heritage and pale communion are by far their best sounding records

Heritage and Pale Communion are too cleanly produced for their own good, especially PC. A song like River would be so much better with a bit less polish.

Pale Communion isn't just clean, 2000s Opeth was clean. It's toothless.

Hellyeah, Waking the Fallen rules too.

Also, jamming again this right now... goddamn, that octave riff in Moonlapse Vertigo (the part where the electric and acoustic guitars combine) before the first verse is so beautiful

Wow what!!? I think both Heritage and PC, but especially Heritage, are produced wonderfully, couldn't find many examples of better produced albums in any subgenre of rock! So warm, so organic, just superb! Of course production is always a matter of taste.

And yes, this isn't a 5.0 to me. It actually is on the verge of a 4.0 most of the time, but actually going that extra step down feels unfair still.

I don’t listen to Opeth music for if it has “teeth” or not anyway. For me it’s all about the songwriting, whether we’re talking about heaviest or lightest Opeth records

Besides, I feel that debating whether they’re toothless or not is kinda stupid to begin with. They’ve always been a prog band at heart, no matter how many death growls Mikael uses
