Dark Horse got me into the band so I'll always have a soft spot for it. Also that breakdown is 10/10

Same. Probably my favorite Converge song tbh.

Best Converge album imo. It has a ton of their best riffs with a good amount of experimentation too.

"but yeah man I always thought that song was kinda overhyped"
Damn that's a hot take lol. Is one of their most beloved tracks, even outside of openers. I've even shown friends that aren't into metal that track and they tend to enjoy it for just instrumentation alone.

I’d say this record has their best production, just clean enough but still dirty and those tones are fucking T H I C C

If I'd heard Dark Horse before hearing Concubine, I probably would've dug into Converge's discography much much earlier TBH

Fair. I already loved these guys before this dropped, but man did that track hit me like a ton of bricks, right out of the gate. It felt like a fresh take on their sound too, so the unexpected nature of it was honestly quite the thrill. I remember the experience fondly.

Well, for clarification, when I heard Concubine for the first time, I was still getting into the harsher metal and metalcore genres, so it did not compute with my ears.
I do like Concubine now, relistened to it recently, but at the time it completely put me off because of how abrasive it was (and I'm aware that's what makes the song so good)

Haven't even heard fcpremix, so I'll take your word for it, Demon

Yeah we’ve discussed this a lot in various ‘verge threads but if I’d been provided with a ‘copy’ of Jane in an era where I was a rampant digital consumer (i.e. now), it would’ve likely been left to rot. I bought the CD and persevered until one day I just got it, lol
I kind of envy those of you who had this one to hear as your first!

Calculating Infinity hit first, Jane actually took longer
We Are The Romans took years. I actually got into post-metal before it REALLY made sense
got them all on CD at a similar time, must’ve been early 00s
