great, but holy shit is it overrated! first of all, the songwriting here is not all that fantastic. you have your "sunday morning", your "femme fatale", "venus in furs", "all tomorrow's parties" and "i'll be your mirror", but you also have "run run run", "there she goes" (both featuring generic blues-rock melodies), and the two closing ugly-ass fests that may succeed in what the Velvets were trying to do, but are both so boring and so dead emotionally that they don't even exist in my VU lexicon. Life's too short for ugliness, imo.
What else? Ah, "Waiting For The Man" rises to excellence not because of its great melody or anything like that (in fact, it is just a slightly better than the others on this album, but still generic blues-rock motif), but because of its fantastic, pulsating production. And, kill me, but I never was a fan of "Heroin". Yeah, it demonstrates being high on heroin blah blah, but I don't enjoy it all that much. It has no effect on me. It's just seven minutes of slow-then-faster-then-slow-again variations that I theoretically like, but never enjoy fully in practice. It's boring, imo.
