Still haven’t heard this so I don’t know actually.. but some people seem to compare the new MO with this group

Looking forward to listen to this tonight

New MO draws some influence from this. Especially Bed Head.

The parallels are more atmospheric and in terms of production IMO. Silversun Pickups did it first but recently MO has started to adopt more of a shoegazey backdrop and because they're in similar scenes people immediately draw a line over here. SSPU's earlier records (like this) are heavier than modern Manchester Orchestra. The closer comparison for The Million Masks of God would be Better Nature, not this album.

Oh there was absolutely nothing wrong with drawing a line between Bed Head and SSPU, was just elaborating as folks unfamiliar with this band might find the comparison confusing when they hear how SSPU are considerably heavier. Better Nature is their softest and most warmly glowing, which seems like a better match for MMOG, but that's just my opinion.

"Better Nature is their softest and most warmly glowing, which seems like a better match for MMOG, but that's just my opinion." completely agree!

I think I am going to relisten to Better nature now. Very underrated album.

Yeah Better Nature is actually my 3rd favorite SSPU, I kinda regret that initial 3.5 take of a review because it's grown to a strong 4/light 4.5. It never really got the respect it deserves; it's beautiful.

Anyone who listens to Pikul, this band’s real true debut, gets +10 indie cred.

SSPU needs the crunch IMO, that's what made this and swoon so good
