dealer and nmg can switch sometimes depending on mood

only picked up the "i wanna be tender like a grip on an egg" in gratitude that also pops up in hall of frozen heads. love the way those two songs almost talk to each other

Hall of Frozen Heads could go on for another 2 minutes and that'd be cool

“Cleaning” still isn’t doing anything for me, but everything else has clicked and grown. Still think NMG is my top Foxing tho.

Holy moly, this is great

Cleaning sounds unfinished, super dull track tho yeah.
This is a hard album to rate. It kind of reminds me a bit of the hype for Deftones’s Ohms, except this has songs actually worth keeping. Hell 99, Greyhound, Barking, Frozen Heads, Gratitude are all pretty great songs, and the rest is just kind of there. 3.3/5

get rid of hell 99 and you got the biggest keepers
in a way this has the opposite problem of ohms which was all mostly fine but had no lasting highlights where this has such a jarringly dramatic ceiling/floor ratio

I think Cleaning is supposed to sound unfinished… like there’s something missing from your life.

If the point was for it to sound mediocre then yeah they nailed it lmao
And yeah onion, I think that’s mostly true, but Ohms has some noticeably kind of bad tracks I think. The opener in particular has aged horribly, I think. Outside of that it’s pretty remarkably average top to bottom unlike this. I think more so the reception both garnered is why I draw the comparison. Both seem to be wayyyy overrated at release

I don't know how you can listen to Cleaning and not be moved a little
Ohms is probably my favorite Deftones album

ngl Cleaning made me cry like a fucking bitch and hold my dumb little dogs
Very much view it as a prelude to Barking anyways instead of like a fully fledged song

It just seems odd to pick that track of all things and say it's boring. Like sorry his dog's death wasn't more exciting for you...?

In all honesty if there's any song here that could be deemed uneventful it's Barking, which follows a very formulaic alt-rock approach (and is still pretty good!).

Cleaning is a hard dud imo and it's to say no to the counterparts phenom of mediocre af tracks getting a pass on the dead pet card
generally agreed with the Ohms comparisons re. dubious hype, but, lame as Genesis is, i think the lows here are notably lower (and the highs much higher)

I don't think Cleaning gets a free pass, it's just hard to imagine a track with those emotions being portrayed many other ways

I think seeing it happen in real time makes it hit a lot harder for me.
Like I vividly remember seeing them on the first night of that short run of shows, then Milk went missing while the band was on the road, so everyone was posting trying to find him while Conor is like three states away, and then just the heartbreaking news to find out that he had died just destroyed everyone

milks passing is extremely sad, and i deeply feel for conor that he had to lose a pet so horribly and have felt the need to hug my own dog every time ive heard it, but i have mixed feelings about it in execution too. not really a huge fan
