You definitely need to give this one another listen John

I was just now trying to make a combined album between this and Cutouts, and now with the juxtaposition, I'm hearing how much better Wall of Eyes is. Crap. Might have to lower cutouts to a 4 just on principle.

I just did the same thing and there's two songs on here I kept up against most of Cut-outs lol. woe is an accurate anagram for this one unfortunately

After the first listen Cutouts sounds more exciting than WoE, there’s more dynamics, has blood pressure.

Definitely don’t think Cutouts is simply Bsides or “leftovers”, they’re just a very different vibe and it makes sense for them to be separate. A double album would certainly be interesting but I don’t even know where to begin on sequencing lol
@Sowing- Cutouts is a 4.5 too ;)

Yeah they're very different LPs that don't sequence well together. Trust me, I've been trying lol. WoE is more of a lush AMSP vibe, Cutouts has more percussion and driving guitars, almost like In Rainbows mixed with something else I can't quite put my finger on.

Cutouts to me feels like a blend of In Rainbows and Amnesiac

very experimental to flaunt this repackaged milquetoast schtick complete with a title associated with positivity, when all it does is make me sad!

instant psalm is utterly shite

lol it’s a quaint lil ballad but yea not much going on, and that tempo makes it feel very sluggish
zero sum is still one I haven’t grown to entirely, that song is annoying
I think Eyes and Mouth onwards is really where the album really takes off
oh wait no I like Colors Fly

I'm pretty sure the opening of Tiptoe is this, with the chatter in the background and the lower recording quality

"lol who keeps tagging this band as experimental"

"Lot of bands sound like ‘em do they? "
genre categories are not the same as adjectives. otherwise "sad" or "upbeat" or "interesting" would be genres. an album can sound "unique" or "experimental" without being experimental music.
experimental music refers to music like EAI, field recordings, musique concrète, tape music, etc, where technical experimentation itself is a focus of the creative process, and not so much melody/harmony/structure/lyrics etc. the beauty of that kind of music is when something profound or interpretable somehow rises from the ashes, or when the experimental process transforms perceptions of music production entirely (e.g. how old tape splicing techniques became the foundation for "looping").
so yeah, I doubt The Smile / Radiohead fall into that category, even if members might have a bit of appreciation for that sorta thing (e.g. I'm sure Jonny Greenwood is sorta into that stuff. Amnesiac definitely sounded like it was made by a band that values experimental music, at least tangentially).

Drums on the new album are godly

Drums on this were the best part tbh so that makes sense

I feel like if Cutouts is a "b-sides" album then so is this. I get the sense they're continually writing new songs and just having fun and not feeling the pressure of another Radiohead release.

hmm, the bar was low but Cutouts is producing vibes this or Light never did thus far
of course it's maybe a bit overly familiar, but I guess expecting more from RH-lite at this stage is unrealistic
