No I think that’s fair. Interesting take with the mechanical sounding guitar but just piss poor execution

There’s nothing I hate more than bands with faux-dark/gritty titles that take themselves way too seriously and have contrived lyrics like “a broken human from the gaping wounds of earth baptized by decaying hearts a collage of severed skin sewn into my splintered skull”. Fucking loser douche bags trying to dig deep to pretend to have fucked up thoughts

While I can empathize with anode’s sentiment:
1. I appreciate the imagery that those lyrics tend to paint. It adds to the allure of the dark music
2. I wouldn’t be shocked if people like Brendan and folks from the same ilk do actually have those thoughts
Equally a bit silly to be put off by lyrics based on an assumption to know what the writer is actually thinking (or not)?
Should we write off any macabre writers because it’s probably bull shit?

if you are getting annoyed by the lyrics here..... ok. lmao

easily possible to be a macabre writer without churning out that kind of overwrought shite, and this
>I wouldn’t be shocked if people like Brendan and folks from the same ilk do actually have those thoughts
>a bit silly to be put off by lyrics based on an assumption to know what the writer is actually thinking (or not)?
is a choose one scenario unfort

What about those statements is a choose one scenario lmao
also @anode that aside I think there is often only so many ways you can say "my serotonin is fucked up and I wanna die" without veering more into melodramatic territories. I think it's also...well tbh, more than a bit insensitive to presume someone as a loser douchebag on the basis of you finding someone's writing to be contrived or faux-edgy or what have you. Then again, I write in an extremely similar fashion so maybe some bias is seeping through here.

Would you rather have lyrics about kittens, rainbows, and coloring books? It's metal dude what do you expect. Also who even gives a shit about lyricism in metal music anyways

Well that's kind of the whole foundation of this discussion lmao
Lyrics matter when the foundation of the music is something personal which, knowing that this is Brendan Murphy as the lyricist, ensures that it's probably something personal. I totally understand why someone would find his writing overblown or maybe contrived even if I only partially agree with it. I was just a bit take aback by the "loser douchebag sentiment" but I s'pose some of my bias is seeping through.
