The daughters stuff was so so so vile. It must be so tricky to seperate the art from the artist. especially if you took the time to read Kristins note on the horrors she endured.

@johnny so what are your top 3?
|
| |
1. Feedbacker
2. Choirs of the Eye
3. Through Silver in Blood (though this could switch with ASTNS/any of the top 3 ISIS albs at any point tbh)

'is tough at the top. Cult of Luna are gradually running out of places to go; both they and Neurosis highlight the value of ISIS' shorter discog if anything'
hmm, yeah I have to automatically knock Isis down a peg for the short dicog, simply because it DOES make it easier to be consistent when there's less material. Simple maffs. Plus, I don't think there non-Panopticon / Oceanic / WR material is THAT impressive. Neurosis has tons of great material, variety and longevity, so I'd place them at #1, CoL would be at #2.

not really fair to view 5 albums + a buncha EPs as a "short" discog purely bc the other two small. ISIS covered as much ground as successfully within less material and do not have serious duds (barring the occasional snoozer on ITAOT) so they're as adventurous quantitively and more consistent qualitatively
"it DOES make it easier to be consistent when there's less material"
this is illogical because any given misstep has a proportionally larger impact than in larger discogs. ISIS took enough risks throughout their career that their consistency ain't to be taken for granted plus their early sludge goes hard as hell - not quite on par with the Beyond, but miles better than CoL's debut, so they earn their keep there
and yeah Feedbacker is generally considered post metal alongside drone metal and the bunch of psych/noise stylings it taps into on its way

Great album, no need to compare with ISIS or CoL IMO.That's purely subjective anyway.

‘and yeah Feedbacker is generally considered post metal alongside drone metal and the bunch of psych/noise stylings it taps into on its way’
I saw it as drone / noise yeah, although maybe that’s because I don’t remember liking it… which is weird, hmm
Isis consistency thing is semantics really, there’s certainly not a quantifiable answer. I prefer more good albums as a consumer, not really arsed if there’s the odd dud in there. Although CoL have zero duds, for the record.

I don’t like CoL very much

Cult of Luna is top three post metal for sure, especially when you consider they are about ten albums deep and only seem to be getting better and better

Eh I find very little faults and missteps in their late catalog. Also Mariner is damn near perfect in every way.
