I'm one of the biggest metallica fans of all time they've been my favorite band for like 15 years now but this album is kinda mediocre yeah. Lars is subpar even for his standard he's turning into phil rudd at this point. The solos are really hit or miss, the album is way to long and drags on when it doesn't need to, James sounds great but even his riffs are kinda repetitive here it just sounds like he's recycling hardwired or 90s load riffs half the time. It's enjoyable with some good moments but all in all it just seems like fan service at this point. The band going threw the motions

Checking this now, I like the opener but they drag it out for too long. Guess the rest is gonna be the same.

"Here comes revenge is better than anything on 72" Hardwired definitely had more energy than this. In fact, every Metallica album had more energy than this. Even Lulu had more spark to it.

These guys are in their 60s, rich, and mostly well-adjusted. Any thrash album they could even try to make would be the most fake and contrived shit. They basically play Load meets Justice stuff these days. They just want to rock, they don't want to thrash. When's the last time they've even played their thrash songs like thrash songs? I bet Jason was still in the band.

Didn't get past the third track.
Gonna switch to the Dodheimsgard record and come back to this later. So, so dense.
