Looks like Katatonia just hit us with their heaviest album yet...and by heavy I mean emotionally heavy, not like bench pressing heavy. I don't think I could lift this sadness even if I tried.

Did I already describe Colossal Shade as buttgoth + NITND sections pages ago? In any case it's really good

I don't know what buttgoth is but I like the moniker. It may or may not apply to this band, yes

haha I made it up for the steady stompy beat with gothy vox on top, like how that song starts. You could apply it to the Sisters of Mercy's Vision Thing album

These guys do really love making the same albums over and over again but with slight variations and they do it really well

Apparently that song was heavily inspired by the pop/alternative rock band Kent, which explains the more commercial elements of the tune

"this sounds a lot like Night and I love it for that reason. not sure what your issue with it is "

Does it? I like Night because it's sorta laid back has a different kind of groove to it - a lot of slow, syncopated chugs and stuff - a kinda folky Opeth-vibe.

This feels a lot more proggy, a lot more rock and roll, with more driving riffs and grooves. Night has a lot of bits that feel understated, whereas this always feels really "full" sonically. There's always a lot going on, even during bits that are probably supposed to be quiet. I don't like the boom-y snare sound or the big tom grooves that keep showing up, it sounds a bit too "modern prog" for my taste

I dunno. If it makes it clearer, I had similar issues with Caligula's Horse when In Contact came out. I miss their older, more natural vibe.
