Have any of you heard Worms of the Earth? Finch released it just a few months after WIITB dropped (2002/2003). WIITB definitely did not age too well, but there’s a few gems that still hold up. Such a bummer they didn’t include worms of the earth on it
Here’s a live vid of them performing it like 8’ish years ago. Nate’s vocals are so fucking gnarly, dude is such a talent

the actual music vid for that track, and the whole track itself, just gives me strong glassjaw vibes

especially the vocalists mannerisms at the end (physically and vocally) are straight from daryl

Daryl and Nate are like PB&J. They worked perfectly in tandem on Grey Matter and Project Mayhem and I wish they did at least one more song together but Nate for sure took a lot from Daryl following WIITB.

Oh whoops thought that was the one from the WIITB focused tour from 8’ish years ago. Nate sounds on par in the more recent show as well

I’m not a huge fan of WIITB though, SHTSS is the lightning in a bottle ish that I’ve appreciated for damn near 2 decades lol

Glassjaw deserves a ton of praise for their contribution to the genre, but Finch were definitely releasing stuff around the same time and ultimately paved a unique road with SHTSS. Nate and Daryl are both incredibly talented, and prob the top 2 in the genre (generally speaking)
Edit: dammit I outed myself as a finch Stan with the 3 comments in a row lmao

I caught them on the WIITB tour and was front row yet I could barely hear the band over myself and the people around me singing. It was really awkward and Nate and Randy were looking at each other pissed because the crowd didn't have a lot of energy but the band was so quiet. I've had my AirPods play their shit louder than they did that night.
That said, they sounded great but I kind of had to stop screaming along to Project Mayhem since I was too aware of hearing myself. I was hoping they'd play a few of these for their encore but they did bust out Worms of the Earth.

The amount of drama they had as a band is ultimately what ended their run. Not surprised to hear they had some issues live lol. Sounds like they borderline hated each other
It sucks that they continued to tour and not really play much from this album

Yeah I was just scrolling their Wiki and saw Nate quit for a 3rd time in 2016 and that's why they finally broke up for good. I wonder what all the internal shit was but it seemed like they could never stay together for more than a few years at a time. Nate hasn't really done shit since his brief side project in Private Lives.

From what I’ve read/heard it sounds like Nate really wanted to pursue this SHTTS “type” style and make non cookie cutter genre stuff, while most of the band really appreciated the consistent pay that they’d get when they rehashed the hits from FWIITB
relatively safer option/mainstream friendly sound. Their recent song uploads on YouTube display this pretty clearly imo, Nate has uploaded a ton of demo’s that are def in the same vein as this album, while the official band account has uploaded some very traditional alternative songs
It’s all dumb and definitely kneecapped their potential

What hurts the most about Finch is they scratched a music itch no one else can. Melodic, yet heavy. Accessible, yet quirky. Even their unreleased songs they were cooking up sounded amazing.

Yeah people compare this era Finch to Glassjaw but they were absolutely paving their own road/sound. They basically did the whole “Radiohead taking a left turn” thing and had the worst possible outcome lmao
